A small number of British oak trees are believed to be over a thousand years old.

Inspired by the grandeur of these veterans, Mark Frith approached the publisher, poet, and philanthropist Felix Dennis in 2011, and proposed drawing a series of large scale, highly detailed portraits of Britain’s ancient oaks. Equally passionate about Britain's tree heritage, Felix Dennis commissioned a twenty drawing series.

The series took Frith three and a half years to complete.

Before his untimely death in 2014 Felix Dennis gifted ten of the drawings to the Royal Botanical Society’s permanent collection at Marton.html
